So my friend Bob calls me the other day, and says that I ought to come on up and get a shot of the Egyptian. Says it's the only large neon sign in Park City. Bob's one with it dude, the Sundance Kid they call him, so I danced on up and got some shots of the joint. Well, I don't really know Mr. Redford, and he doesn't really call me, but it makes a good story, no?
Actually, I came looking for this shot. The sodium vapor lights throw the colors off a bit, the building is actually dark blue along the top, and teal green in the middle (where the squares are), but I kind of like the way the colors came out better. The only thing I'm not totally satisfied with is that there is a little section of neon not lit up in the very front, but I guess I won't complain too loudly. I got pretty lucky that there were very few cars on the street, and none parked right in front of the theater, especially on a Saturday night. That's what off-season will do for you.
So, I'm set up on the sidewalk, minding my own business when a large pick-up pulls in front of me, and I'm hoping that he's not going to set up shop right there. He pulls forward a bit more after someone else pulls out, far enough to get out of my frame, and all's right with the world again. He gets out of the truck and gets himself all situated, then pauses beside me. We start jawing for a bit, and he says that I should come inside with him, and get some shots from the balcony of the Sidecar, where his band is performing in a bit. He then says that I might be able to get some shots of the band, too, maybe? Sure, and off we go.
So, the shots from the balcony didn't come out as good as this one, but I did get about a hundred shots of his group as they did their sound check. They didn't sound half bad, a sort of southern rock-type group with amped acoustic, electric lead and bass, as well as an electric mandolin and keyboards/organ and drums.
So, now you're all filled in on the haps in Park City. Cheers!

Thank you, Don. During the day, it's not quite as fancy looking. I got a few earlier just to check it out, but the mood lighting really does the trick.

It looks like a mysterious place, in this neon pic.

Who knows what goes on here, eh, Norrel? One thing I like about the building is the ticket taker booth in the middle of the entrance. It's a little glass surrounded space that mimics the shape of the awning.

What a great story! Now I am looking for the sound button on Pano! As far as the original colors go I think I would have liked them better but the mood is much better this way. As Don says it makes it look classy.

Don likes it cause it says Egypt! Actually, little Egypt could do with a nice little theater, come to think of it. Nice setup and story.

Hello, JF. I thought that I had already replied here, but it must not have taken. I'm glad folks appreciate my wordiness. I know I imply just the one, but, well, you know. You've already seen the day shot of this, so now you know. I like how the little bit of natual light down on the street level makes this look more like a set than an actual location.
Greetin's Bruce. Glad my tale appeals to you. : ) I'm not so sure about the "right people" business, but they sure are interesting sometimes.
That's funny, Larry. Now I see that Don has ulterior motives. We'll have to keep a sharp eye out, and make sure that he doesn't take this away one dark night. Thanks for the nice comment.
