What do you call those plants growing at the bottom of the rocks? In Alaska we have a form of Alder tree that pioneers the landscape as the glacier retreats. They are very difficult to hike through.
Probably the pioneering tree species here are grey alder, birch, or some kind of salix sp, probably a combination of all three.
