wish there wasnt so much steam, the innards of geysers are awesome. But thats the name of the game when photographing these things. When i was at the grand prismatic spring i felt like i was in a teapot. At least what you can see here is great, capturing loads of detail.

Thanks, Greg. I was actually waiting for an eruption that never happened, and then it started raining. The reason the light here is so interesting is it was very bright but through a very thin layer of clouds so it was not direct.

Greetings, Ryan

Echinus usually erupts every 2 hours. It fills with water until the water reaches the rim, then it erupts. Eruptions usually last 20 to 30 minutes, and is empty at the end of the eruption. Once in 1994, my wife and I witnessed a 1 hour & 55 minute eruption.

Thanks for the memories.

Yes, I remember reading something to that effect, and I know it was ready to erupt soon. But the rain that had started as light mist (raining while I took this shot) turned into a pretty heavy downpour while I was waiting and I wasn't ready to stand out there getting soaked for maybe 30 minutes. So I left without seeing the eruption. I got lots of good eruption photos from all over the park in 2004 on film, but my timing was just off in 2006 and I mostly ended up seeing a lot of misting and bubbling.
