The leaves have an acrid mousy smell, and the name probably derives from an ancient association with the house goblin, Robin Goodfellow.

Very lovely photo, Peter! Thank you! So funny, I have photographed a Geranium robertianum as well yesterday. Its smell is rather unpleasant as you mentioned, but this herb and its root are used against many ailments as well.
