Great photo, Dianne
Thanks Dianne! I was pretty surprised to see how many babies this pair had. And it was interesting to see that some are the white form, and some gray.
Wow Bits this is great. Are they an adopted family perhaps? I hadn't realised swans hatched so many cygnets at one time.
Thanks marbiz! No, the nests are all in separate ponds, and the parents are pretty territorial, so no chance this is a mix. I read in this webpage that they can have up to 11 eggs, so this isn't the top number possible. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely all nine will still be around in the fall - so now I'm starting to think I might be best to stay away from the pond :(
Interestingly, I was surprised there were only the 4 in the family posted on the kamaly page - the same parents as last year, and the same nest posted up above here. But now that they are off free swimming, I can see that two eggs didn't hatch. So they'd started out with 6.
I look forward to following their progress in the coming months.
It's a very pretty shot, Bits. Well caught!
Thanks marbiz and not1word - It was so cool tp see so many cygnets - hopefully I can get back by there before they're grown!
That would be neat to see some more of them. If you do manage to catch them, you might want to give the last three credit. I think you meant to say three cubed? Unless you meant a three sided square, which would be a triangle, but who's keeping score?
lol, my that's getting confusing! 3 squared is what it is...I'm pretty sure this is the same pair as in this shot from last fall. Coincidentally, I was standing in the same place I was for that shot and for this one.
And then 3x3=9...My goodness, if they'd had 27 babies, I think they'd call 'em GEESE !
I thought you were referring to the little ones. Disregard my comment.
That's pretty much always a safe course of action.
I was talking about how many little guys there are there, not1word, lol. You tryin' to confuse me? .
Never mind me, Bits. I'm more confused than anyone. I got my squared and cubed all messed up. Sorry about that.
Voted with pleasure!!!
Thanks very much Irina !
