I was wrong. There is a Hopeful Heights! I grew up near Florence and have never heard of until now. You are never too old to learn!
It origanaly said "FLORENCE MALL" but they werent
allowed to advertise on a water tower
Actually, the way I heard it, the Mall contractor had already started to paint "Florence Mall" on the thing, but the City Council intervened. They didn't want to pay the contractors to 'paint over' perfectly good paint, so they changed the M to a Y' instead - Kentucky Ingenuity! If you're in town, visit Fillmore's Drive In for a real old fashioned 1950s burger experience! My mid-section proves it!
The contractor had painted "Florence Mall" on the water tower but the mall was not finished so the tower could not promote an area that was not complete. So instead of repainting the whole area of the tower the "M" was turned to a "Y'". And a Northern Ky icon was born. I grew up in Hopeful Heights in 70's and used to ride my dirt bike and race the large earth movers on what is now Mall Road when it was being built.
