This lock used to draw youngsters like me as I liked to see boats entering the lock. The lock keeper was a Mr Dawson and I would help him to close the doors before the valves were opened to let the water in. This lock enables motor boats and long boats to travel up stream, some as far as Ripon. The western doors were fitted with a walk way that enabled one to reach the power station. Sadly the latter fell into disuse and has been silted up. How very sad.

I have had many a pleasant trip on my friends boat from Linton to York and Boroughbridge but he has now moved the boat to the Leeds /Liverpool canal. The Lock gates are still in operation but the Pub is closed, now thats very sad. Many thanks Guy.
