Sunsets such as this are not unusual here in the cold North. There are a number of equally unusual sunsets and sunrises in my gallery.

The special conditions are created when cold air from the sea condenses the air above the high ground of the North Yorkshire Moors where the air is much warmer.

As the clouds lift on the warm air, the setting sun casts this beautiful red glow through the various earth's layers and reddens the sky from underneath the rising cloud. The golden sun can be seen low on the horizon ;>)
