A poignant scene of just three of the many thousands of such headstones which are found in any Western Front military cemetery across France, Holland and Europe. Here at St-Symphorien a few miles to the east of Mons, lie the graves of the first and last British soldiers killed in the Great War 1914-1918. They lie just 8 paces - and two and a half million lives - apart.
