When I drove by I thought what a magnificent place to sea kayak: the vocano in the background (to the right) poking around amongst the islands, perhaps camping overnight on one. But alas, how to get the kayak there?

Dear colleague, From Arica (north of Chile), you can take the nice Route 11 upppp... (>4,000m over sea level). After the crossroad to Parinacota, there are these beautiful lagoons (Lagunas de Cotacotani) in the way to Chungará lake (amazing landscape with volcanoes Payachatas = Pomerape and Parinacota), not far from the Bolivian border. It is a very beautiful place (environment must be preserved!) - no words to describe it! Perhaps the best option to stay in surrounding areas is Putre. Chilean friends can provide more detailed informations. North of Chile (http://www.panoramio.com/user/44319/tags/Chile-North) = very beautiful, unique! Best regards, André.
