The largest Latino group in Perth Amboy is from Puerto Rico, but the second largest is from the Dominican Republic. Quisqueya is the indigenous (pre-Spanish) name for the island of Hispaniola. In the 2000 census, nearly 19% of the population of Perth Amboy claimed descent from the Dominican Republic, one of the highest concentrations in the U.S.
