Great shot, with the shadows of the arches, the poppies makes it a moving photo, and adds colour to the memorial wall. D.

Very nice composition here H and a great subject.

Cal Kimola Brown on June 9, 2009

Very interesting. Do family come and leave poppies by their loved ones name?

diannemcd on June 9, 2009

Cal I think thats what happens, I havent been, but I am sure H will answer that one for you. Cheers, Dianne

Hi again dianne, marbiz and Cal

Yes Cal, the names of all servicemen and women who died in all our wars are listed along two arched walkways. Staff will research and print a map with the position of the name and you can then buy a poppy to place next to the name. It is a very moving experience to see all those names, so many poppies, so many lives lost. I have two World War 1 relatives there. H

The arched shadows really do make this one special, Dianne. Nice eye to catch it.

Jean Gregory Evans on June 19, 2009

Um, yeah, this is a really great shot, Helen. There. Sorry for the mix up.

Inspector H snaps on June 20, 2009

that's OK n1w I don't know who I am today, I'm having trouble adapting to change!!!! The arches also reflect into a pool which looks great.

Hi Jean, thanks, it is a beautiful building, you can see above the map some other images and it is in direct line with our new and old Parliament Houses. H

A beautiful and very moving photo H. It must give the living relatives of WW1 and WW2 casualties a sense of comfort, as well as reminding us all of the tragedy of war.

Inspector H snaps on June 25, 2009

Thanks Amelia It is a moving experience to search for a long lost relative who died and is buried overseas and to be able to place a poppy next to their names. Hello to you from Melbourne. Helen

whoelius on July 30, 2009

You've clearly got the natural knack for composing a photo, Inspector. I love your stuff.

Inspector H snaps on August 3, 2009

...thanks whoelius - it is quite a sombre experience walking along this wall with so many thousands of names of war dead, but the sun and shadow certainly caught my eye...thankyou for the compliment. Helen

Good eye Helen. This photo looks much more like painting. Very attractive!

Helen - I guess whenever I looked at this page before, there was a fresh comment I haven't wanted to rudely bump up. So I really do owe you a comment about what a stunning catch I also think this is, with the line of the arch shadows and the poppies. Interestingly, it has a very Asian feel to it.
