I love Vipond Park. My dad used to drive us up there when my sister and I were kids.

Thanks Dann. Yesterday I drove over the Byway, after I'd been up there the night before. I'd photographed a bear at dusk, that I was pretty sure was a griz. The ground was so hard and dry I couldn't find any tracks. So, I thought I'd see how high I could go on the Quartz Hill road. Couldn't believe I could drive all the way out to Canyon Creek. In fact, it was dusty. Incredibly dry, even on the very top at 8500 feet. It's going to be a bad summer, but the cold and rain today is great to see....

Thanks for visiting, Dann!

Hi Eve

Lovely flower. Cold and dry here too, although we had a rainfall event of about 30mm or so last week. Apart from a similar event about a month earlier, this is the first decent rain since well into last year. Winter is starting to bite now - our first frost earlier this week, and looks like they've set in now for a little while at least. We don't get as cold as you guys but we'll see -10 (C) for many winter nights (and then 20 degrees C or so during the day - mad eh?).

Cheers

Greg

Thanks for visiting, Greg. The place where I took this picture would normally not be free of snow for another 2 to 3 weeks. It was completely dry, indicating the snow had been gone for some time. The fire season has me pretty worried this year.

Your temperature shifts are pretty wild. Must make it hard for the plants to decide what to do.

It's kind of sad to hear it's so dry. Typically at this time of year (as is my experience), the higher elevations are in full melt. What do the upper parks of Wise River look like? This time last year, they were filled with water.

Dann.

Hi Dann, I took this just the other day. The Wise River wasn't all that high, and was running clear. No snow anywhere near the Byway.
