Thanks! This is an amazing area to sail -- boat access is the only way to get to this particular spot. The lumpy things on the shore near the water are oysters. This shore is an oyster lease, where oysters are seeded and later harvested by the leaseholder. The water is exceptionally clean, perfect for oyster farming.

The Puritan Pilgrim Brewster Oysters would be aghast at the free-wheeling hedonistic lifestyle of their Left Coast cousins! (and naturally would be quite envious, I'm sure!) Are there any beds available for boaters to take some of? Or is it just Oysters Oysters Everywhere,and not a half-shell to enjoy?

Hi kamaly. No need to poach ... Oysters are pretty easy to come by honestly; the laid-back non-Puritan Japanese oysters have escaped of course and thrive here. They are on rocky shores everywhere up and down the coast, displacing the smaller native oyster. We don't take any, both on general principles and because oysters are yucky. If you liked oysters, you'd be in heaven!

well, like gnarly admitting to never actually having surfed, I must admit that except for big shrimp, the occasional lobster and maybe swordfish every few years, I'm not a seafood person. the one time I tried oysters, well, it wasn't pretty, that's for sure! So I'd have no interest in any, legally or not. Sounds like steve111 would sure like the area, though!
