crikey Jean, that boat has become an invaluable prop....you must have eyes in the back of your head, you seem to catch every happening around your neck of the woods. H

H, crikey is right! But not because I saw it, but because this little one can give you a great big stinging exploding in fire pain. I was able to not touch and let it go on its way. I make it a point to not touch anything, ever. Ever. I point and shoot and go on my way. You would not believe how bad this hurts when the little hairs puncture your skin, there is some sort of chemical that causes a violent reaction. Once stung, you never forget!

Ouch, hurts just to think about it. I think we also have some stinging caterpillars - they gather en masse in a writhing stinging ball on gum trees. Not sure if they sting people or creatures. H

Helen, not all of the caterpillars here are the stinging sort. I can never tell which ones are the ones to avoid so I just avoid touching any caterpillar. I have seen some folks who know the difference pick them up and let them crawl on their finger for a moment and that looks cool.

I would like to see a photo of a ball of caterpillars over there in your neck of the woods.

We have some that lay eggs in a big silk web, that looks a bit like an overdone spider's web. They grow into worms before they emerge. The white webs shine in the trees and when the worms start squirming, they really gross me out. I should take a photo sometime... or dig out one of the ones I already have.
