En Guinea convergen manifestaciones de las dos etapas de la historia insular: la prehistórica y la histórica. La razón estriba en las óptimas condiciones naturales que posee el paraje donde se asienta. En primer lugar, su flora y su fauna, entre la que destaca el Lagarto Gigante de El Hierro y uno de los escasos afloramientos de agua potable en el Valle del Golfo, así como la geografía de su relieve a camino entre las distintas zonas de población de la Isla.

Sus primeros pobladores fueron los bimbaches, quienes se establecieron en las cuevas y tubos volcánicos de su suelo de malpaís y que hoy pueden visitarse. Después de la Conquista se introducen otros modelos de viviendas por los colonos normandos hasta la actualidad. Cada una de sus viviendas de piedra y colmo representan hoy un momento de la historia de la Isla con sus enseres correspondientes. Todo el conjunto se ha recuperado gracias a un ambicioso proyecto de restauración que ha contado con financiación europea.

The first settlers were the bimbaches, who settled in the caves and volcanic soil of Malpais and can be visited today. After the Conquest, were introduced other models of housing by Norman settlers to the present. Each of their houses of stone and paste represent today a moment in the history of the island, with its associated chattels. The entire complex has been recovered thanks to an ambitious restoration project funded by the EEC.
