The beach on the road. A moderate breeze Norwegian style.
The beach and small dunes at Sola are really unstable RoarX, made worse by the 'traffic' of feet particularly in the summer time; and I think that here there may have been a total dune blow-out at some point. I don't know the reason for that of course, except that there is the remains of WW2 bunker right by the beach here. There are a few areas just about 200 metres further north, and some further south at Reggestranden which could be classified as dune slacks, but only just! Other dune-lands further south in Rogaland are far more impressive.
This particular stormy time, a summer 'breeze', approaching gale force, removed much of the sand from the beach and deposited it on the road and the airfield. It was shifted fairly quickly, back onto the beach; but this damaged area still bears the brunt of the westerlies, and sand collects around the perimeter of the airfield fence fairly frequently. I had never seen as bad as this either before or since, and the phenomenon may have been because the sand was very dry.
Your extra information is really interesting. I know so little about geology, never mind the geology of Norway. Some reading material would be useful! :))
As far as the NPC goes, this is not a beautiful photo, so will probably get little attention, but it fits the NPC theme perfectly for this month. Many thanks for your visits. It's good to speak to people who leave sensible comments!
Geology is part of my education (Master in physical geography, hopefully finished this November). One of the books i like the most comes in English version . Also the Geological survey of Norway got some dowloadable content under "publications", especially the bulletins are nice. Also their online map recourses are great (landslide risk, bedrock, gravel deposits, snow avalanche risk etc)
Thanks so much, Roar, for those links. You have whetted my appetite! I might buy a good book - translated into English of course, my Norwegian isn't up to scratch yet - to read over the dark winter months :)

I meant the November NPC of course... (smacking my head)

BTW, I think your photo is better that most of the flags which have been posted so far.

And many thanks for your encouragement too :)
As I thought Roar, it got very little attention :)))
It did get some attention! Some photos did not get any votes. I feel lucky, i got higher score than expected.
