Open house dates for 2016 are: 18-19 Jun, 17-18 Sep, and 15-16 Oct.
I didn't take a guided tour because I was visiting old friends at the Mill, so I don't know if this donkey runs. But it looks like it ought to. I presume it's been donated to the Sturgeon's Mill Restoration Project.
Bruce: I forgot to mention that at Sturgeon's Mill in the early '50's the log storage pile was between the Mill and Green Hill Rd. (In the open space you can see north of the Mill in G-E.) They used an overhead cable system powered by a stationary donkey engine to lift the logs onto the pile when they arrived by truck and then off the pile onto another truck to be taken to the Mill when they were scheduled to be sawn. If you go to see the Mill this summer you will be parking where that log pile was.
In the late '50's they moved the storage pile across the road (a greenish area to the north in G-E) and used the same donkey engine arrangement to lift logs on and off the pile. I am not sure where that donkey engine is now. It was still in use in the early '60's and may have become completely worn out by the time the Mill closed.
