The scale of this picture dwarfs more than those two people. Great shot! Good work.

Fantastic, Snemann! I am curious, was the snow starting to slip on it's own, or was it deliberately triggered?
Snemann, on May 30, 2007, said:
Eve, this is normal snow behaviour here in the spring. These sun induced quite slow moving slush avalanches often start when small corniches fall apart, or when wet snow slides from a slick rock onto the slope. While usually quite slow, they carry a lot of mass, so it is advisable to keep a distance. Big ones are quite scary to watch, as the snow behaves more like a river. In areas like this it is normal to go up early in the day, before the sun heats the snow, and down again when the activity is over for the day.

Thank you for the explanation, Snemann. I wondered if it was the same spring snow behavior as here. You are right, it is scary to watch, and even scarier when you notice it is beginning to slip under your skis. We usually check the Avalanche Center reports before we go and stay away from steeper, wind-loaded slopes once it starts to warm up.
