Gold was discovered at Hill End in 1870 originally as alluvial which started to run out then it had to be mined. The rush finished at the end of the 1800's.Gold is still mined there today.Hill End is now a historic site administered by the National Parks.

Hi Brian, Just looking at some of your photos around the Hill End area, and wonder if you would be interested in allowing a couple to be used in a publication I am working on for NSW Geo Survey? It's a map of the Bathurst area with an empahasis on the mining and geological history. Full credit would be given to you of course, and we'll send you a copy of the finished map. I can be contacted on john@flatEARTHmapping.com.au or via www.flatEARTHmapping.com.au/contact. Look forward to hearing from you, John
