Hello Ian, beautiful composition and impressive arrangement.

Cheers Micha

Ian Stehbens on June 28, 2009

Merci Domi. I hope the theme comes through clearly. Ian

Ian Stehbens on June 28, 2009

Danke Micha. I appreciate your affirmation. You may have guessed from my name that I have family roots in Mecklenburg & Schlewig-Holstein, so I appreciate your recent images of St Gertrude in Hamburg very much, too.

Warm greetings,

Ian (currently in Tonga)

Très original, Ian, cordialement, roland

Funny short. The earth mother is sleeping now. She should wake up and do more exercise, as she is overweight. I can see her big belly. LOL

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff and Roland

Hello Jeff. Earth Mother is not sleeping at all, but rather she is in labour and about to give birth to another generation. And You and I need to ensure that as far as is possible we respect the earth and seek lo leave a minimal "footprint" upon it so that it is wisely and beautifully given to the next generations for their custodianship, in turn.

I am pleased that you appreciate the originality, Roland. Made Budiana has been experimenting with contemporary sculpture, and as I was in his studio, and our conversation had been about environmental concerns that are acute for both Indonesia and Australia, I could not but seek permission to place the fresh sculpture on the globe. And thence a photo session got underway.

I hope it communicates!

Appreciatively,

Ian

....like it very much!

Very nice and symbolic photo Ian. Have you returned from your travels or is this a Totem from Bali? Anyway, I was wondering if you would like to return to my Lake Bohinj Karst photo as it is an entry in the Pano contest ending tomorrow. I usually don't prod folks but in your case you were so kind to write something nice on this when I first posted it. Best regards. -Art

Raz & Art.

Thanks Raz.

Art, this was created in an artist's studio in Bali. It was quite impromtu, but the issues that lie behind it are very premeditated. Now that I am in Tonga I have been asked to help with the development of post-grad curriculum in ecology & theology. Perhaps you perceive the connections here.

Do enjoy the finger lakes ride!!

Imagination and creative, Ian!!!!One word can create a picture!.. An image can create an entire world !! YS! Best wishes, Simona

Ian Stehbens on July 1, 2009

Dear Simona, I have added the tag 'worth a 100 words' and you have thrilled me with the extent of your appreciation.. thanks for the YS, too.

Perhaps I should have included a chrysanthemum in this image, somewhere, just in memory of your mother.

Thank you again Hans-Jürgen. I am pleased that you have responded to this particular photo and been very affirming.

As for Mecklenburg, my earliest family roots are in Blücher, near Besitz bei Boizenburg. If you used my Mecklenburg tag that will take you there! I was last there in 2005 and just loved uncovering the history and reading the Church Records. There are distant relatives who still live in Mecklenburg as well as elsewhere in Germany. I find the exciting part is that we can go back 8 or 9 generations and connect to each other through 17 steps in the family tree!!

Let me assure you that I will be regularly enjoying your album, so that Mecklenburg is deepened in my identity.

Warmest greetings,

Ian

I know that you have many friends, in all countries in the world!! Because you have a great and generous soul, Ian! ............................................ A chrysanthemum, a tear and a smile! Thanks! Simona

Ian Stehbens on July 3, 2009

Dear Hans and Simona,

Your friendship is felt and gratefully acknowledged. It is so special to be able to relate through our creativity, our travels and our messages, even though we have not met and may never do so.

I am pleased that we are able to communicate so meaningfully at many levels. And a hug () is offered, Simona.

A fuller reply regarding my family roots in Mecklenburg is posted on your site, Hans.

Sincerely and appreciatively,

Ian

Very well done! I'm impressed. GGR

Dear sister Füsun,

I have to admit that your encouragement to blend poetry and photography and art is partly responsible for this creation. Even now I do not know what Budiana had intended to do with this piece, but it was sitting on the side of one of his work areas. In the instant that I saw it, and having seen the globe a little earlier, I put the two together in my mind and then began a photo session working with positioning, backgrounds, focal length, and lighting.

I do not know whether the "Earth Mother Archetype" is known to you at all. It is a concept that has been used to transform the assumption or perception of 'woman' as vulnerable, victim and object to one of subject, actor and competent being. In Catholic Christianity, Mary typifies that type, while in Judaism it would be Eve.

However for me currently the environmental stresses and concerns for the world have once again reversed the perception, and if not the "Earth Mother Archetype" then it is the future generations that are now vulnerable, victim and object.

It seems to me, without any research, that women generally seem to have a higher level of concern for the environment than men.

I hope this object d'art speaks of my concern for the future generations who will be born as inheritors of this planet, and that it therefore challenges our assumptions and demands that we change our way of thinking, and acting, environmentally.

ORIGINAL TU FOTO, muy lograda, desde españa un saludo muy grande, domingo verdu

Ian Stehbens on July 8, 2009

Yes Domingo, this is a piece of impromptu artwork, that carries a lot of significant meaning for me on the status of the environment, status of women and future hope. I am pleased it got your attention. Thanks very much for responding.

Ian

Thanks for your link. I have given my comment previously. It is a brilliant and innovative creation.

Cheers, Jeff

Ian Stehbens on January 1, 2010

That's true Jeff, but previously you didn't see her in the same light as "Earth Protection". I thought she now could rest beside your splendid image. Let's keep working at making a positive difference in our world, not just for future generations but even for the present generations.

Gratefully

Ian
