I appreciate the confirmation on this one. :) As I scrolled through these bracketed shots I could tell immediately that the combined image was going to be something interesting. I'm really not sure why people overdo or "cartoonize", as you said, HDR images because it is not that difficult to get a natural result. Must be a personal "thing". :)
