They seem to be quite common along the western seaboard they migrate in the same way as geese..and where do they nest ?

This is a fine photo...not easy from a canoe!

Brown Pelicans nest on the ground, cliffs and low trees, dear Jim, according to an article I just scanned. They do migrate up, then down the Coast, and their breeding area is at the southern end, which explains why I haven't noticed any pelican nests here - an excellent question. If you view my Storm tag shots, you'll see an amazing number of pelicans on their southward trip in early November. I enjoy seeing/watching the pelicans very much - an odd combination of clumsiness and aerodynamic brilliance, and excellent fish finders/catchers :O)
