No Kidding! The tunnel was built in 1920 then filled in, in 1948 then dug back out in 2006 and completed restoration in by 2009.
The main reason for the closer of the tunnel was because of rock fall on the east side would hit cars.

Yes they did a wonderful job!
I was there the weekend after the dedication and they already had rock fall damage the fencing on the eastside of the tunnel. This was one of the main reasons the tunnel was closed down..
