I've got one photos somewhere, of that tree with the small hemlock growing on it.
This spring, I put together a page with trees on the other side of the park:
Grove of Titans and Atlas Grove Redwoods
I post that on many blogs so people can get a chance to see them. I can't put GPS to them, to avoid a stampede. A lot of people Google day and night to find them. But no maps are posted online.
Hopefully I can get down to this Simpson Reed Trail this autumn. I try to work it into my trips down there. An excellent choice for wheelchair users too.
I have a picture of my wife on my desk in front of these trees. For my rookie opinion, and only hiking the redwoods a handful of times, the above trees seem pretty easy to identify compared to other specific trees for some reason, ie lost "butterfly." Maybe those notches on the right tree make them so easy to ID, who knows-I'm just new to being obsessed with protecting the redwoods.
As for trying to find Sillet and Taylor stuff, I think I'm pretty close after countless days and nights collecting the various descriptive narratives, scouring topographic maps and ruling out misleading or incorrect directions. Again, I'm obsessed with protecting them, and have a certain "floodplain" on my brain every day, all day.
I too am on a hunt for the Grove.
I have been piecing together clues for some time, but yes it seems there is alot of miscorrect information out there (on purpose or not).
I think I have been scaring alot of people by asking for clues.. as though I am going to post a map online or something. NOTHING could be further from the truth and I'm sure you feel the same way.
Honestly I prefer this. In no way would I want an exact map, and that would destroy what makes them so mysterious.
Any clues/pieces of the puzzle would be great help. Let me know and I will do the same!!
