This photo is taken of a clump of trees on Bryn Dafydd farm which is mid way between Penllergaer and Cadle. I visited the farm with friends about 20 years ago and talked to the farmer about the trees and the mound to try and establish the significance. Penllergaer means "The place at the top of the fort" and Cadle means "Battle Place". Close to where your photo was taken were Roman training camps and a Celtic Hill fort and burial chambers. The Battle (Cadle) that was fought however was in 1136 and a memorial stone was erected by myself and friends in 1986 as it was a significant and major battle with a Welsh victory. The actual significance of the trees on the mound is still a bit of a mystery but is believed to contain a burial chamber and was used by the Welsh army for its commanding position. The area below the trees in your photo is called Garn Goch and local tradition is that so much blood was spilled in the battle that the blood was up to the horses fetlocks .A translation of Garn Goch is Red Fetlocks. OVer 500 English were killed and their remains maybe below those trees on the hill. Hope this information is of interest.
