Beautiful photo! I've gotten that engine a couple of times. Once when it was standing still as the crew was changing in Las Vegas, NV and once as the second unit behind the Katy unit on a Union Pacific double-stack in Cajon Pass in the summer of 2009. The only two of the Heritage units that I do not have several photos of are the DRG unit, and the CNW unit. I did notice that your little blue square was in the wrong place in Goggle Earth. Great photo though.
Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure how the marker got changed - I originally put it just about where you suggested it would be - weird.
Being from New York, this is my ONLY shot to date of a heritage unit. I'd love to bag a few others someday - they nicely break up the utter monotony of yellow GE dash 9's.
Last summer there was a guy in Las Vegas that was telling people when any of the Heritage units were coming through Las Vegas. Every single unit plus the 4141 "George Bush" unit rolled through at least once, usually on double-stacks that went from the Global 1 terminal, I think around Chicago, to the L.A. area. The only time I was able to get a photo of any of them was a time I happened to be in Cajon Pass for a photo session. That is when a west bound train had the MKT unit as the lead unit, and the SP unit following of a three unit lashup. I got them near Cajon Station, and again just past Blue Cut. Please visit my website at www.northamericanrails.com for more photos. I will be adding the photos of any "special" units on another sitepage soon. Look for updates. By the way, now the marker is in its correct place. Feel free to contact me on my e-mail. You'll see it on the website. Enjoy. ---Randy
