Your link got me thinking, and after reading that the Shield Bug feeds mainly on hazel, I looked for a picture of a hazel leaf

So he would be well camouflaged!

Yes he would. These seem to be unique to UK yet I swear I see some bugs that look like early stage versions of these according to portsdown.org. Oh well so many bugs, so little time.

Beautiful picture, Peter! I think I've seen this bug before, but never took a photo of it! You can probably hardly recognize him when he's sitting on a leaf! His camouflage is perfect. But I'll look out for him anyway!:) Best wishes, Anne
