Lightning from Bull of the Woods Lookout, Mt. Hood National Forest.
WOW.... Could only imagine the feeling you had when you saw this! And you were lucky enough to capture it!
Just the other day I was talking to my mother about the lack of lightning this year.... I'm
Wishing I could have seen this myself!
Yeah, it was way cool! Very lucky shot though, the mosquitos were horrible and I didn't have a tripod and I don't know how I managed to stay still enough to get off a shot!
Thanks for the kind comment Pamela :)
How long ago did you take this picture? And what do you mean you don't have a tripod?!?!?!? What kind of camera do you have?? Sorry, I just know my camera would even dream of letting me have a shot like this one, not without it being on a tripod anyway. (or me putting it on one of the timed settings and me holding my breath and trying to block any wisp of air that might come along!) I'm famous for smeared photo's... I think i have three tripod's in the back of the car, just in case. (you would think i was serious about photography or something)
Sorry, had to make fun of myself
Do you spend much time up there in the woods?
I took this several years ago with my Nikon (Ektacolor Film) when I worked for the US Forest Service (retired now). They used to fly me to this Lookout (Bull of the Woods) whenever thunderstorms developed. I traveled pretty light and on this particular trip I don't believe that I had a tripod with me. Like I said, it was a pretty lucky shot, there was still enough light so it didn't require a long exposure, pure luck that I tripped the shutter when I did. After dark with a tripod, makes taking lightning photos easy, just switch to the bulb setting, open your shutter until you get a flash and voila, you have your shot, not so easy when it's still light out.
