very nice view, Pennington. I like the filigree construction and the colors. Greeting, Klaus

Thanks, Klaus. This is the Old Northern Avenue Bridge. It is now closed to vehicle traffic, with only a pedestrian walkway along the right side. It is also in the closed position in this photo. It still swings open to allow boats to pass -- as you can see in the next photo. It is suppossedly one of the oldest steel truss swing bridges in the world that is still operating.

This is great Penny. The lines and the color are wonderful. Funny I don't remember that tall round building in Boston...is it relatively new? Great city as long as you don't get lost in it! Bruce

Thanks Bruce -- I have admired this bridge for years. The round sky8raper you see through the end is One International Place. It's an office building in the financial district. It was built in 1987, but is much more visible now that the Central Artery is buried instead of elevated. If you haven't been to Boston since the Big Dig was completed, it's worth a visit. It's hard for me to believe how much more beautiful and welcoming the city is now.

As for getting lost -- it's pretty easy to get lost in a car -- there are so many one way little streets you just about have to leave town and come back again to get from the financial district over to the colleges on Huntington Ave. On the other hand, if you are walking and loose your way, you can just look up. Most of the older buildings are so low that the tall buildings are real landmarks.

No, Penny I have not been back since the big dig was finished. I had been there a few times during the project, making deliveries for a print shop I worked for and I know what you are saying about the one way streets. Still it is a wonderful city as far as I am concerned. Maybe my wife and I can catch the train up from Hartford when we are up in October. I would love to go back!

No train from Hartford to Boston anymore. You'd have to drive up to Springfield. You might consider coming up on the Acela from DC to Boston, then taking the train south from Hartford when you go home. You'd have to take a bus or enlist friends or family to get you from Boston to Hartford -- maybe it would be easier to do it in reverse get family to drive you to Boston and drop you off there.

I use the train from Springfield to Philadelphia frequently, and find it a much more civilized way to travel than flying. On shorter legs like that, at least, there is no appreciable difference in time when you include all the ground time involved in flying.

And once you're in Boston, you're better off without a car, anyway! It's an eminently walkable, human-scale city.

Nice composition of lines there, Pennington... :)

Thank you for your kind comments on the composition, GGR* and Andre! Although, I'll have to admit, this is one of those shots that pretty much composed itself.

This is an impressive shot Pennington, but in great contrast to my photo's of the deserts of Namibia! OK, my new photo's of Namibia are on display in my gallery at last! If you are interested and have some time available, you are most welcome to visit my gallery! Friendly greetings from Cape Town, South Africa! Johan
