The red Mercedes-Benz is the only car without trouble, I suppose?

Conrad Nay on July 20, 2009

Of course! Actually the Windstar van was in the process of blowing its transmission; we got it down to Lillooet and it died completely. But what a beautiful drive through there.

It does look like it would be a great road for a drive, Conrad. Sorry to hear about the transmission trouble. What a headache.

Conrad Nay on July 20, 2009

They are upgrading this road as it will be a backup route to Whistler Mountain for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Very beautiful but a lot of switchbacks and steep climbs.

It turns out that the transmission is fine apparently.

Norrel on July 21, 2009

In winter this road could be rather hazardous (unless your driving a Mercedes-Benz, of course). But in summer, this scenic road is amazing!

Conrad Nay on July 22, 2009

I've been told that my driving is hazardous no matter what I drive....

jjkphotos.com on July 22, 2009

I've been told that exact same thing Conrad. I like the point of view you've chosen.

Norrel on July 26, 2009

That's why you have to drive a red car, Conrad, to warn people about your driving skills. I suppose that Jan drives a red one too.

Conrad Nay on July 26, 2009

You are probably right Norrel; but I also get to follow fire trucks too.

Jan, are you a fellow red car driver?

And Norrel, what colour is your car?

Norrel on July 26, 2009

I drive a blue Volvo V70, Conrad, blue because of my safe driving ;>)

Conrad Nay on July 26, 2009

Blue so you can get away with more, you mean!

I have a friend with a blue Volvo, and he says he is always driving under the radar.

Norrel on July 28, 2009

Ah, a stealth Volvo, so he can drive on the emergency lane unseen!

Nawitka on July 30, 2009

Well, that highway has a bad reputation. Good to hear the transmission trouble was only temporary. And what a nice spot you picked to pull over!

I see that Norrel in his stealth Volvo has just passed you ... :)

whoelius on July 30, 2009

Woah! What a view!

How is the V70 treating you, Norrel? Does it autofocus with older lenses?

Norrel on July 30, 2009

Laughing out loud, who! V70 has to be handled with care. If he has a bad temper, he can be rather aggressive.

Conrad Nay on August 9, 2009

Hi there Nawitka...thanks for your comments. Indeed this stretch does have the perception of being nasty, although I found it to be well worth the drive (after all, it was only my brother-in-law's vehicle that had the problems!!!)especially considering that I'd gone over it 25 years ago when it was literally a one lane logging road in places. But it is getting the full upgrading treatment as they get it ready for 2010.

I'm amazed that you caught Norrel's angry out of focus V70 as it inched past...before he'd installed the Pelton Wheel.

Conrad Nay on August 9, 2009

whoelius, you'll have to take a drive over this road as it provides many photo opportunities, not all of which involve vehicle breakdowns!

Ritva Astikainen on August 15, 2009

Stunning view! Your car involved?

Best cheers :) Ippa

Conrad Nay on August 15, 2009

Thanks Ippa! Yes, mine is the bright red one; the only casualty of this drive was the Ford Van. Although I was at fault since I'd suggested to the other drivers that we take this route!!!

Ritva Astikainen on August 16, 2009

Woww what a cutie pie - your car :)
