Hi Nick, Alan, Vadim, Steve,

Thanks for the visits. I was tempted to clone some real black smoke onto it from one of my other pics, make it look like it was in steam, but those with sharp eyes would realise steaming wasn't possible!

Best Wishes Peter

FEARSOME! I love Nick's description! Very fearsome indeed! Somehow the whole thing just looks unusually wide.... completely demanding of one's total respect and admiration, no doubt!

A fantastic, magnificent beauty!

Thank you for sharing this powerful beast!

Best regards from Georgia,

Mary Alice

Hi Mary Alice & Tone,

Thanks to both of you for your visit and kind words. I like the analogy to a Borg ship, and I see exactly what Mary Alice means by the width. Maybe the designer put the air pumps there on purpose!! The Allegheny follows the same idea. I suppose us British are used to clean and tidy lines on our steam engines!!

Best Wishes Peter

Hi Bruce,

and thanks fro the star. It was nice for me to get to see these close up, even if only in a museum. Didn't get chance to experience the sights and sounds of such a monster at work, the sort of thing which your photos convey so well.

Best Wishes peter

Hi Radist

Thank you for the visit & nice words. Sorry for late response, I've been so busy with work recently, I've had no time for Pano. The Soviet steam locomotive is very nice too!! (and is maybe in better condition than this one!) I will come and have a proper look at your gallery soon.

Best wishes Peter
