Beatiful landscape and nice contrast of the sky.
Another beautiful photograph from your trip south. The landscape is wonderful and the clouds shadows on the ground are simply gorgeous.
Hello Marilyn! What a beautiful picture you uploaded here! Wonderful landscape and a lovely clauded sky! Great work!
Greetings from Holland, Ria
A beautiful landscape and nice clouds Marilyn!! greetings, jenper
Those clouds aren't promising anything good, but impressive yo look at! Greetings, Ed.
Beautiful new uploads Marilyn and specially this one is impressive(although in my eyes!) i like the colours the clouds and the enormous depth!Y* for it!
While I like the grand landscape very much, I am also interested in the dead pines. Are they the aftermath of the beetle infestation, similar to that which is sweeping away the forests of Colorado at the moment? Or fire? I note regrowth so I presume if it was the beetle that there can be regrowth.
And will you map this one for us please?
The women of Tonga await your visit!
I'm glad that you enjoyed this wonderful scene with me, Toni, Steven, Ria, jenper, Ed, Bruce, Tjeert, and Ian. At the moment, I'm in Atlanta doing historical research, and we "escaped" to the mountains this past weekend.
Thanks, Bruce, for help in answering Ian's question. I was going to add some information but hadn't got around to it.
At Mt. Mitchell, which we also visited, there was a good display about the trees, pointing out the factors Bruce did, and one more: the devastation caused by the Balsam woolly adelgid. There's an interesting description of the forest in the "The spruce-fir forest" section of the Wikipedia article.
Again greetings to all of you, and thanks. And now I'll try to map the photo! The satellite image isn't very good, and there aren't many human constructions in the area to go by.
I was looking through random photos of the south on google maps and I was surprised to see so many of the photos were by you. I didn't know you had come down here. I liked this one in particular. The bold clouds and the beautiful view make this shot exceptional.
Best regards from Georgia,
I'm glad you found this, Kyle, and thank you for the comment. It was an inspiring view!
I'm doing some historical research that involves my using archives in Atlanta. (They moved there from Rochester, NY, which was so much easier to reach from our southern Ontario home!) My husband and I have made three trips so far, and will be making another in a little more than a week. Each time we so about two weeks work in the archives, going somewhere on the weekend in between, when the archives of course closes. On our July trip we "headed for the hills," and had a wonderful time in the Smoky Mountains.
(Long ago, before I was married, I worked one year in Lynchburg, VA, and two in Greensburo, NC, and I've attended a number of meetings in Atlanta and two in the sea islands, so I wasn't a complete stranger even before this recent travel.)
Best wishes, Marilyn
I read an impressive life story intertwined with photography. I've seen beautiful photos and as nature lover, I stopped at una.Va want power and inspiration to write with light ... Now, at the end of the year, please allow me to wish you happy holidays and a New Year 2013 with health and abundance.Like+Fav. Stefan
I very much appreciate your comment, Stefan, and hope that 2013 is a very good for you, too.
Best wishes from Canada, Marilyn
