Thank you haggs. I like this picture, with the sledges, dogs, drying of fish in different ways and the mountains. Greetings, Mats.

Quite an experience living up there, huh?

matsljungberg on August 14, 2010

Yes, but I am just on visit and was fascinated with the life with dogs, sledges (in winter) and fishing. And a beautiful landscape. Greetings from Sweden, Mats.

Any idea of waht type of fish it is? We have something similar here called "Bokkoms" which is a very salty Mullet (known as harders here.) This however seem to be freshwater fish?

Thanks for your comments Oompie. It is a saltwater fish, this is the Uummannaq fjord on Western Greenland. The fish is called Capelin (amasetter, lodda) and is partly fished by big boats and used as bait, fish meal and sometimes food. It is also catched by local fishermen, dried on the dog sledges (which else are used only in winter time) and used either as food or dog food. It was nice to see all sledges with the fishes lying in a very regular way.

The fishes are often many together in the water, and sometimes we saw them under our kayaks, when we paddled in the Uummannaq fjord.

Greetings from Sweden, Mats.

Thank you Reinhard for your comments on this photo. I like it, telling about the life on Greenland, even if Panoramio doesn't. Greetings from Sweden, Mats.
