The Malpas tunnel was drilled over a length of 170 meters, in sandy sandstone, with a constant risk of collapse in the winter of 1679-1680. It was not enough to reach the sea, it was necessary to reach Sète. This will be the last major project led by Paul Riquet, indeed, he died a few months later, on 1 October 1680. Roger.
