Owing to the high humidity of the coastal desert climate, hazy weather is common in this city. The Antofagasta is the most important copper export port in Chile because there are two biggest copper mines of the world, La Escondida and Chuquicamata, in its hinterlands.
アントファガスタはチリにおける銅の主要輸出港。後背地にラエスコンディーダとチュキカマタという世界の二大銅産出地をもつ。これらの鉱山に付属した精錬所やアントファガスタ郊外で生産された粗銅延べ板が鉄道で運ばれて来る（Panoramio ID: 1289003参照）。晴れてはいるが、海岸砂漠気候特有の湿気の高さのため、薄い靄がかかっている。2003年9月1日撮影。
