The fog or low cloud of the coastal desert covers up to about 500 meters above sea level (Panoramio ID:25680224)and dry lands with blue sky extend above it. In Peru the altitude zone between 500 and 2500 meters on the Pacific slope of the Andes is named Yunga, that means hot valley. The valley slopes are covered by sparsely spaced grass and scrub, and continuous green is found only valley bottom where the water of stream from the Andes is available. The green belt extends from right to down ends of the photo is the irrigated land for orchards and so on along the Cañete River at about 800 meter above sea level. There are more than 50 streams of this type along the Peruvian Pacific coast, that make it possible for more than 50% of people of Peru to live in the coast region (La Costa) of desert environment.
