It seems to have been restored since then.
When I go to the Storey County courthouse I hope to find the exact date for the picture because it was the day my father and his girlfriend of the time drove up from San Francisco to get married.
If he had not taken this quick snapshot I would never have found where the courthouse was. After I scanned the Dufaycolor film I googled Piper's Opera House and within seconds knew where the other pictures were from because there's only one Piper's Opera House.
This picture was taken on 24 May 1941.
Max, Your Dad had to have been married by my Father - William Pollard, I was born a year later. There were a number of people from CA married there and my mother had come from SF to witness her brother's wedding and a short time later married my Dad and later became JP. Thanks for the added note about your Dad's marriage - yes, many places there were pretty run down in the 40's.
Bill: When I visited the courthouse about 3 yrs ago to get the 1941 marriage certificate I had a nice conversation upstairs with the county clerk. She found your father's name for 1941. Did you see the picture of the courthouse with the man wearing a suit leaning out the window? Is that your father welcoming the starry-eyed young folks inside to get hitched?
