That comment on West Island I know well as my father Peter took Wade Doak and his friend (not Tarlton) fishing for trophy kingis, puka, trevally with a free dive. Doak was taken to the island with a University party of botanists. He ask about the Elingamite and my Dad gave him some specific information and delivered him to the site, with tanks. They found it by good luck. Their written accounts differ substantially with the truth.
Thats life!. The other photos you have of the Mokohinaus I can recall being on site when the chopper was dismantling the keeper house and throwing the debris into the ocean. Complete waste of a building. I notice they have erected a new chalet to replace it. Conservations?
Great place to relax and fish, except for the mozzies who live on their helipads at Grouper Rock. On a quite evening it time to exit the area if you do not want to be a blood donor to a caste of thousands!!
Cheers from a junior chainman for von Sturmer Kaitaia- back in the day.
