Hi Peter. I clearly remember many of the details of the Lynmouth Disaster of 1952, for though I was only a small child, I sat with my grandmother often as we turned the pages of her scrapbooks, and this disaster was fully covered with quite a number of photos. A generation later in 1978, I visited the place intentionally, by then I was a serious student of Human Adjustment to Natural Hazards. And the little book on the disaster is here on my shelves. It is nice to revisit Lynmouth here through this attractive scene.

Hi Ian

I remember seeing the news of the disaster on Black and White Television and my parents talking about it; probably my first real understanding of such disasters.

It is hard to believe that the day before could well have been like this and disaster far from anyone’s minds.

There is still a controversy about the disaster see the BBC Site here

Best wishes Peter
