The Calvary of Tronoen (1450-1470) is the oldest monumental calvary of Brittany (click on the town name above to see other views). It is situated near the Chapel of Tronoen, in a remote place near the sea. Most of the statues of this calvary are made of granite. They have been worn away by marine winds. At the end of the calvary erection, they used the Kersanton stone. This microgranite is very smooth and easy to work when extracted, then hardens and become stable. The expression of Saint Joseph is as the sculptor made it. After that, the other great breton calvary have been made of Kersanton (and probably painted).

Le calvaire de Tronoen (1450-1470) est le plus ancien des Calvaires monumentaux bretons (cliquer le nom de la commune pour voir d'autres vues). Il est situé près de la chapelle du même nom, dans un endroit isolé proche de la mer. La plupart des statues du calvaire sont en granit. Elles ont été usées par les vents marins. A la fin de la construction de Tronoën, on a utilisé la pierre de Kersanton, microgranit qui présente la particularité d'être facile à travailler peu après son extraction, puis de durcir et d'être quasiment inusable après. L'expression de Saint Joseph est celle que lui a donné le sculpteur. Par la suite, les autres grands calvaires seront réalisés en Kersanton (et vraisemblablement peints).
