This picture was a very dirty portrait painted on glass that had broken into about six pieces, painted around 1890.

Putting tape behind the glass and scanning as much as I could, and then a few hours work in photoshop seems to have produced an decent representation. I think she was worth all the trouble.

Yes, Peter, she was worth all the trouble! You created a wonderful portrait of your great grandmother from the broken pieces! It is great to know what your great grandmother looked like! She must have been a serious and very kind person! Her eyes are beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us! Best wishes, Anne

Well done Peter and thanks for posting it at some considerable resolution, it is nice to be able to see the brush work.

All the best from over here, to over there Jethro

Thanks Ian

I thought you may appreciate this photo considering your great interest in family history.

I do miss the Tags, it is hard to search through for things like this.

Best wishes, Peter

Thank you Jethro

I will have to check on the art of painting on glass. I wonder if the image was somehow projected on to the glass.

Best Wishes Peter

Amazing! It was certainly worth your time! Family history is something I have done off and on through the years - another past time that eats time just as bad as Pano. Imagine the joy of your family at having such a great photo of their ancestor! She was a beautiful lady!

Thank you, JF

I think the looks were passed down to my mother, but not to me!

Best Wishes Peter
