Dragon bridge is located on Ljubljanica river. Dragon bridge was built to replace the so-called Butcher's bridge (Mesarski most) which was made out of wood and dated back to 1819. The city decided to replace the wooden bridge with a concrete one as it required less maintenance and it was more cost effective. It is a beautiful bridge that represents the Art Nouveau style of architecture and it was the first bridge in Ljubljana that has asphalt paving. The bridge was constructed by engineer Josef Melan while the ornaments and the design of the bridge is down to Dalmatian architect Zaninovic, who designed the famous dragon statue that many learned to associate with Ljubljana.
