South Africa has quite a lot of mountains, and it has some wonderful mountain passes, which have severely tested the genius of the country's master road engineer, Sir Thomas Bain.
This one is the Tradouws pass, which connects Barrydale to Swellendam. It was opened in 1873.
The name Tradouw comes from the Khoisan word "tradau" meaning "way of the women".

Dank je Tjarko! Sorry voor de late reactie op je andere comments, maar mijn laptop is aan het sterven en ik ben dus een beetje uit mijn normale "workflow" om het zo maar te zeggen... dus ik laat de laatste tijd even niet zo veel van me horen, maar dat wordt hopelijk binnenkort weer hersteld! :)
