Day 24 in South Africa - where we go from Oudtshoorn to Swellendam. A day filled with magnificent landscapes and towns with a long history.
Although the landscape (and certainly the long, straight roads) reminded me of the American Southwest, the South African Little Karoo added a twist: on many places, snow-capped mountains fill the horizon. Truly a great sight to behold.
(Another twist would be the large amount of ostriches you pass - there are many ostrich farms in the Karoo.)
With such incredible wide open spaces, it is not hard to understand why the Dutch farmer/settlers who set foot here thought they had walked straight into the promised land.
