Wandering aimlessly on the net, I came accross this Photo. Hi Marilyn, this is not Meenakshi. Meenakshi is a female goddess. And the one seen in your picture is a male. Though I wouldnt be able to give you the correct name,(it depends on which temple you shot this pic from) I can confirm it must be one of the Gate Keeper Demons, such as Veera Pandi.

I hail from Madurai. Given your pic is selected for Google Earth, it helps to be more authentic; atleast not mis-associate(no offense intended) a male god picture with a female goddess.

Thank you, guppeey, for your comment. Is this title better? I had not meant to suggest that the sculpture was of Meenakshi, but that the photo was taken at the wonderful and amazing Meenakshi Temple.

Good one Marilyn. I definitely think the birds add to the effect.

Thanks, Hank. Yes, I've always been glad they were there.

You asked in some comment about my book. I've finished the manuscript, and the second academic publisher to whom I sent it is interested but wanted it shorter before I send the whole thing. I've done most of the shortening and lots of tidying-up, and I expect to send it to them within the next two weeks. Then I can cross my fingers while they send it out to peer reviewers. So here's hoping ... Marilyn
