Turkey - Aegean sea - Gulf of Gokova - Sedir Adasi (Cleopatra Island)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Gulf of Gökova is a long (100 km) narrow gulf of the Aegean Sea between Bodrum Peninsula and Datça Peninsula in south-west Turkey.

Sedir Adasi, also known as Cleopatra Island, has one of the most special beaches in the world which is famous for its beach made from seashells. It is said that this organic sand was brought by ships from the Red Sea especially for Cleopatra. Each grain of sand is a perfect sphere, for this reason the beach is heavily protected by the government to prevent any sand being removed from the beach.
