Thanks Steve. To be honest, it's difficult to advise - I use a Nikon, so would (naturally) point you towards their kit. It's best to 'have a feel' - get your hands on a couple of bodies in a shop and see which feels right to you. Also bear in mind the ongoing cost of new lenses - Nikon glass can be quite expensive. If you are considering a Lensbaby or something similar, be sure to check their compatibility charts.

There's been a photography show at the NEC Birmingham for the past couple of years (February) - would give you a good opportunity to try lots of gear without annoying a sales person; if you go, go early before the crowds turn up.
