The Mouse Tower (Mäuseturm) outside Bingen stands on a small island in the Rhine. Since Roman time this island is fortified. At the other side of the river you can see the Ruin Ehrenfels in the Hessian Rheingau (Rhine District) surrounded from vineyards. Between Bingen and Koblenz the Rhine Gorge counts as UNESCO World Heritage.

And I count between Bingen and Koblenz as the area for my favourite white wines GRIN!

Hopefully you don't speak about "Liebfrauenmilch", Wilf. But I agree to you, if you mean the wine from the Rheingau between Wiesbaden and Rüdesheim on the north bank of the Rhine. The Riesling wine there is the best in Germany. The "Rheinhessen" wine on the opposite site of the river is only second best. The wine region between Bingen/Rüdesheim and Koblenz is called "Mittelrhein". There you don't find top wines, but rather good ones.

Aha! Clearly an expert mainufo. No, I didn't mean "Liebfrauenmilch"! The selection of German wines is rather limited in Canada. The ones that are in what I like to refer to as the "humanly affordable" price range, tend to come from in and around Bingen. They may not be the best, but I do like them. For reds I turn to Australia or California.

Cheers, Wilf

The wine from Bingen belongs to Rheinhessen or to Nahe, both areas with good wines. Cheers.
