I haven't seen Brighton but from pictures I see the connection. I agree that the builders are real heroes!

The "onion-domes" are usually ornamantal cladding on an inner structure and never a true structural dome as it is shown here. Origin of this shape is highly disputed. Thanks Marilyn.
